Baby Shower Gender Reveal Popcorn
“Gender Reveal” baby shower parties are all the rage these days. Rather than inform guests of the baby’s gender beforehand, the expecting parents wait to surprise friends and family at the shower by revealing it’s a boy or a girl through various fun and inventive methods. Some choose to reveal the gender during the cake cutting, while others decorate the shower with gender-specific colors and props. However, whenever possible, we always like to include popcorn in our celebrations. That’s why we suggest using pink or blue colored popcorn to reveal the gender at the baby shower.
4 cups freshly popped popcorn (Kernel Season’s Premium Popping Corn)
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon pink or blue powdered drink mix
¼ cup corn syrup
¼ cup sugar
2 tablespoons butter
Kernel Season’s Popcorn Seasonings (choose the parents-to-be favorite flavors)
Pop popcorn using Kernel Season’s Popping Oil and set aside. Pour measured amounts of baking soda and powdered drink and set aside as well. Select a pink or red powdered drink for girls and green or blue for boys. Or if the parents-to-be are keeping the gender a surprise or have already shared the news, select a color that matches the theme of the shower or the colors of the baby’s nursery.
Combine corn syrup, sugar and butter in a saucepan. Set on low to dissolve sugar, then turn the heat up to a boil. Once mixture begins to thicken remove from heat.
Add powdered drink mix and stir. Feel free to add more for a brighter, more intense color. Then stir in baking soda and mix with popcorn.
Using a slotted spoon, scoop popcorn onto a baking sheet covered in aluminum foil. Be sure to shake off excess syrup. Bake popcorn at 250 degrees for about 20 minutes. Once the popcorn is done baking, lay it out on wax paper to cool.
While the popcorn is cooling, sprinkle on the parents-to-be favorite Kernel Season’s Popcorn Seasoning flavor/s for a sweet, savory or salty combination. We used Popcorn Salt, Nacho Cheddar and Ranch on our popcorn. Finally, scoop the popcorn into take-out boxes and tie with ribbon to hide the color until the baby’s gender is ready to be revealed.
