Spooky DIY Personalized Snack Jars for Halloween
Reuse your leftover Kernel Season’s popcorn seasoning jars to make spooky snack jars for Halloween. Fun favors for Halloween parties, these spooky jars can be personalized with your guest’s name and used as place settings and DIY décor for the table.
Materials and Tools:
Marker or pencil
Glue gun and glue sticks
Black, purple and green acrylic paint
Plaster of Paris molding material
Small sponge brushes
Begin by prepping your Kernel Season’s jars. Rinse them out and remove the labels. Then rub the jars with sandpaper and, carefully, add slashes with a razor. This will give it a rustic look and an immediate appearance of wear and tear.
After the jars have been “antiqued,” write the names of your Halloween party guests on the jars using a pencil or marker. Then using a glue gun, trace the lettering on the jars.
Now, for the Plaster of Paris molding material. Mix 2 tablespoons of Plaster of Paris with 1 teaspoon of water for every 5-6 Kernel Season’s jars. If using Jumbo size Kernel Season’s jars, double the Plaster of Paris water mixture so you have enough to cover 5-6 larger jars. Once the Plaster of Paris and water have been mixed, add 3 tablespoons of black paint and stir thoroughly. Then paint the outside of each jar and set aside to dry.
For the purple and green paints, mix 2 tablespoons of Plaster of Paris with 1 tablespoon of water for each paint color. To create a spookier, duller look, add a touch of black paint to the purple and green paint mixtures.
Next, take the small sponge brush and dip it into the paint. Squeeze or press out just about all of the paint so that when you dab the sponge onto the jar, only a few speckles of paint will appear.
When painting the jars, lightly paint the letters leaving a little bit of the black paint exposed around the edges. Feel free to add more paint layers, but make sure to let each layer dry first.
Once the jars have completely dried, fill them with freshly popped popcorn seasoned with Kernel Season’s Popcorn Seasoning flavors. Depending on your guests’ taste preferences, you can season the popcorn with sweet, cheesy, savory or spicy flavors.
