When I think about the Olympics, I feel an overwhelming amount of national pride and look forward to rooting on TEAM USA! I also think about nutrition and getting into shape. How can you not when you’re watching all those super fit athletes perform. So, in preparation for this year’s Winter Olympics TV viewing, I’ve decided to create a healthier snack spread. Using freshly popped popcorn, fruit, vegetables and an assortment of yummy flavored dips, I’ve created popcorn filled Olympic "torches" and colorful Olympic veggie & dip “rings.”


Olympics Party Snacks – Kernel Season’s

Ingredients

For the popcorn:

For the dip:

  • Washed and cut vegetables and/or fruit (i.e. blueberries, strawberries, apples, celery, carrots, peppers, etc.)
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (feel free to use a light version)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise or Greek yogurt
  • 3 tbsp. Kernel Season's Popcorn Seasoning (choose your favorite flavors)

Tools:

  • Parchment paper
  • Tape
  • Gold non-toxic spray/paint

Olympics Popcorn Torch Snacks – Kernel Season’sPop fresh popcorn using kernels andoil according to instructions on your popper or kernel container. Shake half of the popcorn in red powdered food coloring and the other half in orange. Season with your favorite Kernel Season's popcorn seasoning flavor.


Cut parchment paper into a triangle and shape into a cone. Secure with tape then spray with gold non-toxic paint. Fill cone with colored and seasoned popcorn and set into a vase filled with Olympic colored candy.


*Tip: You may want to make two cones per serving. Place a clean, parchment cone into the painted cone to keep popcorn safe and edible.


Mix together ingredients for different flavored dips using your favorite Kernel Season's popcorn seasoning flavors. I used Ranch and Cheesy Jalapeno, but Garlic Parmesan and Buffalo Wing would also make great dips.

 

Healthy Veggie & Dip Snacks – Kernel Season’s



Fill empty Kernel Season's popcorn seasoning jars with dip and various vegetables. For an Olympic theme, use jars and vegetables or fruit that match the colors of the Olympic Rings.


Arrange remaining cut fruit and/or vegetables into rings on a white platter to symbolize the Olympic Rings.


*Tip: To keep with the Olympic Ring color theme, I used eggplant, blueberries, celery, red pepper and yellow zucchini.
